Trevone Bay, a family favourite
A sandy beach with a natural tidal swimming pool, a dramatic clifftop blowhole and rockpools at low tide — gentler for swimming, and about two miles from the park.
Right on the doorstep
A gentler bay for a family beach day
Trevone Bay is one of the loveliest of the bays near Padstow — a broad sweep of sand framed by low cliffs, with a natural tidal swimming pool on one side and rockpools to comb through at low tide. It tends to be calmer and more sheltered than the bigger surf beaches along this coast, which makes it a reassuring choice for a family swim and a relaxed day on the sand.
It sits about two miles from Atlantic Bays — roughly a ten-minute drive — so it’s an easy morning out, with the blowhole on the headland and the South West Coast Path on the doorstep for a stroll afterwards.

What to do at Trevone
The tidal pool, the blowhole and the rockpools
A few things that make Trevone Bay a little different from its surf-washed neighbours.
A natural tidal swimming pool
Tucked into the rocks at one side of the beach is a natural tidal pool that fills with the sea — a sheltered spot for a paddle or a swim away from the open surf, popular with families when the tide is right.
The blowhole on the headland
On the headland above the bay sits a dramatic blowhole — a deep collapsed sea cave where the Atlantic surges below. It's a striking short walk from the sand; keep well back from the edge and keep children and dogs close.
Rockpools at low tide
As the tide drops, the bay opens up plenty of rockpools to explore — an easy way to keep little ones busy for an hour with a net and a bucket.
Gentler for swimming
Trevone is generally a calmer, more sheltered bay than the bigger, surf-exposed beaches along this coast, which makes it a reassuring choice for a family swim — though always check conditions and any lifeguard flags before you go in.
Before you go
Good to know
A few practical notes to help you make the most of a day at Trevone Bay.
Check the tide
The tidal pool, the rockpools and the safest swimming all depend on the tide. Check the times before you set off so you arrive at the right moment.
Facilities
Trevone is a village beach with facilities close by — there's a beach café, a shop and surf hire near the sand, plus parking. Out of season much of the coast quietens down, so bring what you need on a quiet day.
Dogs
There are dog-friendly beaches in the area, though seasonal restrictions can apply on the busier sands in summer — check the local signage. Dogs are welcome on the park's touring and camping pitches.
On foot
The South West Coast Path runs along this stretch, linking Trevone with Harlyn Bay and round towards Padstow — a fine clifftop walk if you'd rather leave the car behind.
