St Enodoc Golf Club is a natural links golf course with everything you would expect from a James Braid design; undulating fairways, firm greens, some blind shots and great sea and estuary view. St Enodoc Golf Club is on the North Cornwall coast and overlooks the Camel Estuary, with Padstow on the far side, and to the North out across the Atlantic. The location on the sand dunes offers both interesting golf and stunning sea views.
St Enodoc Golf Club has two courses; the Church course is the James Braid designed Championship course and the shorter Holywell course which is ideal for those wanting slightly less of a challenge. Handicap requirements: Certificates required for Church Course only. As the courses are on sand, golf is possible twelve months of the year; even in winter frost is rare here thanks to the warm Gulf Stream climate.
With its hilly terrain no two holes are the same; it may not be long by today's standards but it is tight with punishing rough and so requires courage and accuracy to cope with some of the problems posed. Any visitor who plays to their handicap here can leave feeling that they have done really well. Practice ground, two putting greens and an excellent clubhouse complete with bars and restaurant.
Bowood Golf Course £85.00 18 Holes £77.00 9 Holes
Bowood Golf Course is located at Lanteglos, near Tintagel. Since completion in 1991 the course has now matured. It has been thought similar to Valderrama or Sotogrande. The course is in 230 acres of rolling hills and woodland. And at 6,700 yards (5,700 for ladies) this par 72 course was designed with club golfers in mind and is set up so you shouldn't have to spend your holiday looking for lost balls. Twenty-six ponds, fed by the River Allen, add to the beauty and interest of the course. The greens are well drained and are built to USGA standards. This means that the course rarely closes in bad weather, and in winter tees and greens are in full use - no temporaries.
The fairways are rye grass and favour those who can hit the ball high. It’s course that tends to ned a big second shot. The bunkering is light, the greens rolling greens and vary in size from 500 square yards to 1,000 depending upon the length of shot required to reach them. In addition to the course, there is a ten bay covered driving range and large putting green.30 buggies are available for hire.
It’s on two quite different 9 hole loops. The first nine starts at the upper end of the course and and wends round the hills and back to the clubhouse. Second nine holes follows a valley along the River Allen and the ancient church of Lanteglos.
The signature hole is the the ‘Glorious 12th’, in the valley at the lowest point of the course with surrounding bluebell woods. The green on this par four is almost an island and is reached by a covered wooden bridge. The rhododendrons and the azaleas gave the hole its name (The Azalea Hole).
